Saumsung Not Selling its ATIV Windows Tablet in the US

Samsung will not be selling its ATIV tablet, which runs the Windows RT operating system, in the US.

In an interview with CNET, senior VP Mike Abary, head of the company?s US tablet business, said: ?The investments necessary to educate the consumer on the difference between RT and Windows 8, plus the modest feedback that we got regarding how successful could this be at retail from our retail partners, we decided maybe we ought to wait.?

At CES, Microsoft showed off the Windows 8 version of its Surface tablet, which is expected to be launched in late January. Despite being touted as a ?screen agnostic? platform capable of working across any device, Windows 8 is only currently available on desktop PCs - ?current Surface tablets run on Windows RT, the cut-down version of the Windows 8 OS.

The ATIV tablet can be used with a mouse and keyboard and comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Office software, but a lower price point, seen as a key differentiator between the tablets, has not been realised.
