BALLWIN, MO. (KTVI) ? Missouri Governor Jay Nixon was in town Thursday, outlining plans to improve educational opportunities for Missouri?s students.
The governor visited Oak Brook Elementary School in Ballwin, in the Parkway School District; which has been accredited with distinction for eleven consecutive years.
During his visit, Nixon called for increased investment in pre-school education programs.
He was also asked about school safety in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut shooting.
Governor Nixon is also calling for Missouri to extend its school year.? Currently, the school year is 174 days, the fourth shortest school year in the country.
