EDUCATION: School board invites parents to check out new ...

ST. CATHARINES ? Young children are active, curious learners who are just beginning to explore their world.

The District School Board of Niagara invites families to explore the new Parenting and Family Literacy Centre (PFLC) at Connaught Public School in St. Catharines.

The centre gives children from infancy to six years old a chance to get a head start in their learning through a variety of engaging and educational opportunities.

?At this young age, children learn through play, so the centres are bright, fun places to be that have plenty of games, books, music and toys for parents and children to experience together,? says Kelly McDonnell, DSBN Student Achievement Leader.

The PFLC is staffed by an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) who will further support children?s learning through story and music time activities. The PFLC also features a lending library with multilingual stories and parenting books.

The centre is open from 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. from Monday to Friday. There is no registration required, so parents/caregivers and their children are invited to drop by anytime. Snacks will be provided.

Connaught Public School is located at 28 Prince St. in St. Catharines.

Serving families all across Niagara, the DSBN also operates Parenting and Family Literacy Centres at Kate S. Durdan Public School in Niagara Falls, Rose Seaton Public School in Fort Erie, Plymouth Public School in Welland and Lincoln Centennial Public School in St. Catharines.

Parenting and Family Literacy Centres are supported through a grant from the Ministry of Education.
