Federal funding sought for Retail Cluster | Retail ... - Business Insider

by Phaedra Pym

Business Insider has the full support of the Central Coast NSW Business Chamber, local Business Chambers and Federal Government agency, Enterprise Connect. Our mission now is to apply for federal funding that could be ours provided we can prove our case.

The benefit of a cluster

Being our region?s most dominant employer, the retail industry is without a doubt at the very epicentre of our economy. But so many retailers on the coast are struggling to the point where many appear to have lost their energy. The benefit in forming Industry clusters is that they have the power in their numbers to listen to members? industry specific needs and lobby collaboratively for changes to business-breaking retail related legislation, tenancy costs, freight and infrastructure issues at a local level.

Show us the money

Enterprise Connect?s Innovation Facilitator for the Central Coast Graham Baker has been charged with a brief to form a number of regional industry clusters. The challenge is to show specific and measurable outcomes for each cluster in order to apply for Federal funding. Success has been achieved so far with manufacturing, innovation and social media clusters. We must now find a way to do the same for a retail cluster.

Central Coast Future of Retail open forum

The first step in the process is to determine and clearly define a robust set of objectives for creating a regional retail cluster. To achieve this goal Business Insider will host a Central Coast Future of Retail open forum/interactive session (date and venue to be advised). The idea is for the right people to come together to brainstorm ideas and narrow these down to the top 3 measurable outcomes for a Central Coast Retail Cluster. These outcomes will then form the basis for a federal funding application.

We need you!

We are calling on all Business Chamber presidents to nominate the retailers, including franchisees in their districts that they feel have what it takes to be in it for the long haul ? retailers with the passion and the drive but lacking the support and unified strength a cluster should give them.

If you are a retailer yourself and believe you fit the bill, nominate yourself.
