Four Oregon cities gained jobs during recession

Portland lost roughly 8,500 jobs between 2009 and 2010, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.?

Four of 19 Oregon communities included in a Business Journal study bucked the national trend of recession-era job losses between 2009 and 2010.

Portland wasn't one of them, but it did manage to hold its own.

According to an On Numbers analysis, Ontario, The Dalles, LaGrande and Salem increased private-sector employment during the time period studied. Ontario led the way in private-sector employment gains in Oregon with a 5.63 percent increase.

Portland lost roughly 8,500 private-sector jobs between 2009 and 2010, a drop of 0.97 percent to 870,794, according to U.S. Census Bureau?

That's similar to the margin in yesterday's On Numbers report, which found the number of private-sector businesses declining in 70 percent of all markets.
