South African luxury hotel properties located in Johannesburg, Cape Town and George among other places were recently awarded top honours at the World Luxury Hotel Awards at Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia on 13 October.

Owned by Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed and Southern Africa?s premier gaming, hotel and entertainment company, Tsogo Sun Holdings Limited, The Palazzo was named the Luxury Casino Hotel in the WLHA 2012 country winners? category.

The World Luxury Hotel Awards (WLHA) is a recognised global organisation which, provides luxury hotels with recognition for their world-class facilities and service excellence provided to guests.

Awards are presented to luxury hotels in different categories on a country and global basis with the aim to encourage and raise service standards within the luxury hotel industry.

Over 1 000 luxury hotels, lodges, resorts and private islands participated in the 2012 competition and the winners were decided by the international tour operators, travel agents and hotel guests.

The World Luxury Hotel Awards is one of the most important nights of the year on the hospitality industry calendar, presenting top decision-makers of the world?s finest hotels with the opportunity to network as well as celebrate their achievements.

Marinique de Wet, executive manager of WLHA explains that the host hotel is well located offering impeccable service delivery.

In 2010, it won the Luxury Airport Hotel award and Best Luxury Hotel Award in 2011.

In the Western Cape, the Upper Eastside Hotel offering 183 rooms was named the Luxury Business Hotel in the WLHA country winners? category.

The award winning Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport Hotel recently undertook major renovations in order to cater to the needs of today?s discerning travellers.

It offers a cutting edge experience through innovative product and service offerings and remarkable information technology tools.

However, South Africa which has hosted the event has some of the hotel properties that tick all the boxes when it comes to luxury and service offerings.

Some of the hotels that won awards last year such as The Palazzo Montecasino in Fourways, Johannesburg and The Robertson Small Hotel in the Western Cape have won again in the 2012 WLHA.

While offering unrivalled guest experience, these hotels will likely benefit from the expected growth in revenue as reported by experts in the field.

According to Joop Demes, chief executive officer of Pam Golding Hospitality, a member of the Pam Golding Property group, the Sub-Saharan Africa hotel industry outlook looks positive, with potential growth of 7 to15 percent in RevPAR (revenue per available room) in 2012.

The property is linked to the Sandton Convention Centre and the Liberty Properties owned Sandton City Shopping Centre.

Room rates start from R1?950.
