Stewart Day Woolley, 85, Sarasota, Florida

Stewart Day Woolley, of Sarasota died December 21, 2011. He was born May 30, 1926 in New York, NY, grew up in Mount Vernon, NY and came to Sarasota in 1973from East Orange, NJ. Before retiring in 1982 he was a copy editor and reviewer of performing arts for the Sarasota Journal, sister newspaper of the Herald-Tribune. His career in journalism began on the Binghamton (NY) Sun after graduating from Colgate University and Admiral Farragut Academy (NJ). He also engaged in College public relations and alumni development at Brown University, Lake Forest College in Illinois, Colgate, and Newark (NJ) College of Engineering. He was a senior interviewer and supervisor in the Manpower Development Training program of New Jersey.
In Sarasota he served for many years as secretary of the Colgate Alumni Club and a volunteer for the Literacy Council.
Surviving are several cousins.
Services will be Tuesday, January 3, at St. Boniface Church at 11:00 am. Inurnment will be in Hammonton, NJ. Wiegand Brothers funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
