Ford recently launched the MyEnergi Lifestyle initiative, which focuses on home energy efficiency. To kick off the campaign, Ford is hosting a retrofit contest for homeowners. In this contest, homeowners can win a Ford C-MAX Energi, new Whirlpool appliances, a SunPower solar power system, and other home-efficiency products. "We're very excited to offer the MyEnergi Lifestyle retrofit to our winning families and to put it to the test," says Mike Tinskey, Ford global director of vehicle electrification and infrastructure. "By combining a Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid vehicle, smart energy-efficient appliances and renewable energy generation, we hope to reduce the families' energy consumption and save them money."
According to Ford, if every family in the United States used the energy-saving methods in the MyEnergi Lifestyle, it would be the equivalent of taking every home in California, New York and Texas-32 million homes-off the grid. It would reduce energy costs by 60 percent for each family and reduce CO2 emissions by 55 percent.
To enter the contest, applicants need to submit a short essay of 400 words or less explaining how adding a plug-in hybrid vehicle and other energy-saving devices to their home could benefit their family. Representatives from MyEnergi Lifestyle will judge the essays to help determine the winner.
