Ed Helms' Vacation reboot won't make its July start date because New Line has put the movie on hold due to some good old fashioned creative differences, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. One camp wants the movie to be a more family friendly PG-13 while another camp wants an R rating, like the original.
Since these two camps couldn't come up with a resolution, New Line has decided to put a halt to its scheduled July shoot. This delay could last months, according to sources.
While it may sound like the two camps are at an impasse, the length of the delay suggested otherwise. It looks like the movie is closed down so that changes to the script can be made -- to go either toward the PG-13 or the R rating.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein will be directing from their own script.
In the new Vacation movie, Ed Helms stars as Rusty Griswold, the son of Chevy Chase's character in the 1983 comedy. Grown up and with a family of his own, Rusty decides to take his family to Wally World.
Christina Applegate is set to star as Rusty's wife and Chase and Beverly D'Angelo, the stars from the original movie, will have a cameo.
