What does ObamaCare Have to Do With ... - Vision to America

CircumcisionI was recently discussing the pros and cons of circumcision with a friend, and later, he sent me an article from no less reputable a source than?Yahoo! Health news?which reported that the leading pediatric organization in America has reversed its 13-year-old policy concerning the health benefits of circumcision. Up until recently, the American Academy of Pediatrics had stated that the risks involved in circumcision weren?t really worth the possible benefits. Now, the AAP says that the risks?are?worth the benefits.

The battle over this question has been going on for some time, but what I find so interesting about this recent reversal is that it comes right on the heels of Obamacare passing. You see, the AAP?s endorsement is more than just an unbiased statement of medical research?it has repercussions on insurance. As the story reports:

The nation?s most influential pediatricians group says the health benefits of circumcision in newborn boys outweigh any risks and insurance companies should pay for it.

The most important line there is ?and insurance companies should pay for it.?

(AP) ? Meet Mitt Romney's sweetheart.

Making her national debut, Ann Romney swept onto the stage at the Republican National Convention late Tuesday night and delivered a forceful defense of her husband's character and values ? and made an all-out play for the critical women's vote ? in a speech designed to introduce the country to the man she knows better than anyone.

"I love you women! And I hear your voices," she said, wearing a red, belted dress as black-and-white photos of her family flashed on a giant screen above her head.

She touched on her struggles with multiple sclerosis and breast cancer. She defended her husband's work ethic, saying, "I can tell you Mitt Romney was not handed success." And she told the crowd about what she says she has learned about her husband after 43 years of marriage.

"This man will not fail," she said, as the crowd in Tampa Bay Times Forum erupted with cheers and gave her a sustained standing ovation.

Her pitch was aimed squarely at women who are raising families. "If you listen carefully, you'll hear the women sighing a little bit more than the men. It's how it is, isn't it?" she said. "It's the moms who always have to work a little harder, to make everything right."

And Mrs. Romney defended her husband's wild success in business, offering a character testimonial to counter Democratic attack ads that have worked to paint her husband as wealthy and out-of-touch.

"Mitt doesn't like to talk about how he has helped others because he sees it as a privilege, not a political talking point," she said. "And we're no different than the millions of Americans who quietly help their neighbors, their churches and their communities. They don't do it so that others will think more of them. They do it because there is no greater joy."

The goal of her carefully crafted speech: Help people understand the warm, personal side of her husband, a longtime candidate who has sometimes struggled to connect with voters ? and who isn't nearly as well-liked as his opponent, Democratic President Barack Obama.

"Tonight, I want to talk to you about love," Mrs. Romney said.

The woman whom Romney often introduces as "my sweetheart, Ann Romney!" has played the role of humanizer for months now. Together, she and Mitt Romney have five children and 18 grandchildren who range in age from 16 years to just a few months old. She has appeared onstage often with her husband, who's obviously more at ease when she's by his side.

They met in high school, kept in touch while he served as a Mormon missionary in France, married young and had five children. On Tuesday, she emphasized how their struggles shaped their relationship.

"I read somewhere that Mitt and I have a 'storybook marriage,'" she told the crowd. "Those storybooks never seemed to have chapters called MS or breast cancer. A storybook marriage? No, not at all. What Mitt Romney and I have is a real marriage."

Mrs. Romney has never appeared before a crowd the size of the one gathered at the convention. The speech was viewed as so critical by the campaign that it moved her appearance, originally scheduled for Monday, a day later after the networks announced they wouldn't cover the first evening's events live.

"I've never gone off a written text. So this is a unique experience for me," Mrs. Romney said as she and her husband flew from Bedford, Mass., near their home, to Tampa on Tuesday morning.

Mrs. Romney suggested she played a significant role in shaping her speech.

"I did say it's going to be pretty, pretty tough to actually write a speech that I feel like I can actually give, and so I had a lot of input in this, I must say," she told reporters. "And a lot of tweaking where I felt like I was getting what I really wanted to say from my heart."

Romney's campaign is trying to show more of the two of them together ? and emphasize their love story as an essential part of his biography. When Romney did an interview for "Fox News Sunday" ahead of the convention, the couple also invited anchor Chris Wallace to their lakeside home in New Hampshire, where Mitt Romney flipped pancakes on a griddle and Mrs. Romney, son Tagg, and several of his grandchildren looked on.

When the pair sat down for a long interview with CBS News, they drove an hour out of their way to the Birmingham, Mich., movie theater where the couple used to go on dates as high school students.

And on Tuesday night ? wearing bright red in part because, her spokeswoman said, "Mitt voted for it," ? she turned those early evenings out into a pitch for why voters should back her husband this fall.

"He will take us to a better place, just as he took me home safely from that dance," she said.

Chris Christie is 'ready' for keynote address at convention

Chris Christie is set to deliver the keynote address at the Republican National Convention tonight. But he'll have one eye on Isaac, which could make landfall just before the New Jersey governor takes the podium.

"We're all obviously looking very closely at what's going to be happening in the gulf. And our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and hope that any damage that may happen will be minimal and there will be no loss of life," he told me on GMA.

Despite the threatening storm Christie said his speech "has pretty much stayed the way it was intended to be."

Party faithful are expecting a fire and brimstone address from the governor, but Christie wouldn't say if that's what they'll get.

"I'll be talking about the New Jersey experience and what that means for the country, what it can mean and promise for the country. They'll be some other stuff I'll be talking about too. But I'll be ready when I walk out on that stage tonight," he said.

"I think that if the American people watch tonight and leave the speech by saying, 'Yup, that's him, that's who I've heard about. He seems genuine to me,' then think I will have done my job for me and if they say I like the vision he's laid out for the country and for his party for the next four years, then I will have done the job for my party and my country," he said.

Christie had a tip for Mitt Romney when he takes the stage Thursday: open up to the American people.

"I've always said this George?Mitt Romney is going to have to win this campaign. And to do that over the next 70 days he's going to have to let the American people see who he is, put out a bold vision for the future. Remember, he's a challenger?Challengers always get a late look," he said.

Over the weekend Mitt Romney repeated the famous Popeye quote "I am who I am" in several interviews, implying that perhaps he wouldn't show more of his personal side this week.

Christie disagrees, and credits Rep. Paul Ryan for already bringing out a new side of the presidential candidate.

"I think you've seen [Romney] show a lot more of himself even since Paul Ryan has joined the ticket. I think Paul has brought energy to the ticket and he's brought great energy to Governor Romney after a long and arduous campaign. So I think that the American people are going to see a lot more of him and they're going to start seeing it tonight with Mrs. Romney," he said. "Who no one can speak better or more articulately about the man that Mitt Romney is and the leader he'd be for our country than Ann Romney so I think the fun starts tonight, George, and I think the American people are going to start to get a complete picture about who Mitt Romney is and why he'd be a great president."

Kodaks announces asset protection cinema film, thumbs nose at your digital movie collection

Kodak may not be beloved by digital filmmakers, but it's not fallen out of love with the talkies. It's new "asset protection" cinema film is designed to save motion pictures from being lost if your digital-storage-medium-of-choice is rendered obsolete. It's designed for long-term archive storage, with your Hollywood blockbuster stored in a "human-readable" format that'll remain usable "well into the future." As such, the reels are loaded with dyes that will reportedly remain stable for "decades," but the company thinks will remain viable for over a century -- in stark contrast with the short life of your average hard-drive. It'll add a monochrome offering to the range later in the year, but if you want the color version now, your people will have to talk to Kodak's people, Mr. Producer.

Gambler pays off | Gympie Music | Music Reviews, Concerts and ...

PERFECT weather, a new formula and sheer star wattage combined to produce a ?very? profitable and record-breaking 2012 Optus Gympie Music Muster at the weekend.

A record crowd waits for country music legend Kenny Rogers to take the stage on Sunday.

Craig Warhurst

PERFECT weather, a new formula and sheer star wattage combined to produce a "very" profitable and record-breaking 2012 Optus Gympie Music Muster at the weekend.

In a complete turnaround from the $800,000-plus loss of 2011, this year's event will be remembered as one of the best - if not the best.

Organisers were celebrating their success yesterday, some dubbing it the Rebuild Muster, others calling it the best ever and others the best in its recent history.

Whatever the tag, there was no doubting the Kenny Rogers' gamble had paid off on Sunday night, when The Hill became a seething mass of humanity, packed as it had not been before.

"We are expecting a very big profit," said Gympie Muster board chairman Glen Smith.

"And if you thought (Kenny) was good, wait until you see what we are planning for next year," he said.

"Bigger and better things are coming."

Muster chief executive officer James Dein said everyone was delighted with the outcome this year and had estimated at least 55,000 people had gone through the gates over the four days.

"The teamwork and goodwill from everyone who worked within the event was evident," he said.

"This, together with the wonderful weather, made for a record-breaking crowd on Sunday night."

Mr Dein said that while it would take several years to fully recuperate the losses of last year, the early indications were that the Muster was back in the black and positioned well for 2013.

"There is no doubt that the event has turned around," he said.

There was a mass exodus from Amamoor State Forest throughout yesterday and Gympie and Imbil police maintained a high presence on the roads.

They said yesterday thousands of random breath tests were conducted over the weekend, but only five people were caught drink-driving, three of those yesterday.
